This wonderful 3 minute video is from the Tate Modern in London. It’s about Surrealist Art.

Then go to the bottom of the page and scroll through the many surrealist artists there and then another little video from the Metropolitan museum in New York about making a collage

MAKE

What did you think of Surrealist Art? It’s interesting and unexpected isn’t it? When I look at a surrealist artwork I try to imagine a strange and amazing story that the artist is telling me through his or her work. Now today’s challenge is a little more complicated than usual. We want you to make a Surrealist Collage… You can find interesting pictures in old magazines or newspapers to cut out and stick on your paper and you can also draw and colour some parts of the artwork if you like. When you create your collage try to imagine what story it tells…

Artist Book Challenge

WATCH

This wonderful short video is from the Library at MIT – a college in Boston. It’s about “Artist books”. I found it absolutely fascinating.

And then this short video by the artist Werner Pfeiffer who is an artist himself but also a professor of Art at Pratt in New York.

MAKE

Now we don’t expect you to make a whole artist book in a day – but do think about an interesting way to cut and fold a single sheet of paper. You are welcome to add flaps and other bits to it. It could be like a pop up card or even just a fan like accordion fold and we leave the content of it to your imagination. It could be a just a few words and drawings or could tell a small story.
